Textconstitution: The Historical Poems of Theodoros Prodromos have been preserved in several medieval manuscripts and have been edited more than once; today there is also one modern critical edition of the whole corpus. And yet, problems with the constitution of the text at several points still exist. Some of them remain even after the present work; for others the situation looks much better, and many have been resolved. Restoration of the text was achieved in two ways. The systematic application of philological tools of all kinds (de novo consultation of the manuscript, grammar, syntax, metric, acquaintance with the authors style of writing, comparative reading of texts, lexicographical research etc.) resulted in a convincing emendation. Conversely, an inspiration, like a bolt of lightning in the night, was subsequently confirmed or augmented by the use of the above methods. 2. Quellenforschung here means the tracing of the path the poets spirit has followed, the effort to capture all his allusions or insinuations. This is achieved in two ways. The reader may encounter a passage that corresponds exactly to some other text he/she has read before. Alternatively, he/she may only have a vague recollection of a similar text, which may be confirmed or precisely located with the help of modern technology or traditional methods. When a homing pigeon arrives with news of Taro's mother's whereabouts, Taro sets out for the Tendai monastery - without stopping to consider why the pigeon, which was given to his mother months ago, took so long to arrive. Soon, Taro, Hana and Hiro find themselves in a trap, as strange new creatures invade their lives and familiar enemies surround them - and the most deadly enemy of all is their old friend Yukiko. In the end, despite his vampire abilities, Taro is helpless to prevent the death of his mother. Furious and grief stricken, haunted by her mute and beseeching ghost, he determines to recover the object which Lord Oda was so desperate to procure before he died: the Buddha Ball, source of limitless power. There are just two problems: first, Lord Oda is not dead. And second, the Buddha Ball is not where Taro thought. If Taro is to fulfill his destiny, he must face his arch enemy on an equal battlefield - for Lord Oda is a vampire now too. And then, to make peace with his mother, and recover the Buddha ball, Taro must go to hell and back...
