Squeezing some extra juice out of the old Core i5 2500K
I needed to inject a bit of life into my old Core i5 2500K, and originally I'd not purchased an overclockable motherboard, so I thought I'd pick up one of the various overclockable ones. I wasn't specifically looking for the ASRock as there were a few types available, but I was basing my choice mostly on finding one at the right price, as it were. I'm well chuffed with the results. I think the stock speed of the 2500k is like 3.3GHz, and I just instantly o/c'd it to 4.6GHz in the bios and it's been completely stable (note: I did already have an aftermarket heatsink on the cpu). The main issues I was suffering from was my whole system getting laggy when the cpu was maxing out to 100%, whereas now it copes much better.
