A deep dive into Memphis music and its attendant craziness.
Behind the scenes in Memphis, this book is a compilation of articles on its music makers. The focus is on the artists and what makes them tick rather than a fanboy ode to the music. The artists are unheralded in the wider music community and idiosyncratic in their approach. No caving into the latest trends or worrying about number one hits. From Furry Lewis to Alex Chilton to Chan Marshall, the reader gains a sense of the artists' motivations and personal struggles. Over twenty articles make one wish they had been there at juke joints, barbecues, dives and house rent parties to witness the power of music. Many anecdotes dive deep into the creativity and craziness of this scene. Get it!

How small town Florida produced a big time Nashville songwriter
This book traces Bobby Braddock's life from tiny Auburndale FL to the point he leaves for Nashville. In between, we are treated to the sometime idyllic upbringing of the author in rural Fl. Life in small town America is richly documented. The author fully recognizes the racism of society at the time (1941-1964), as well as the positives of growing up in a tight knit society. Music lovers will enjoy Mr. Braddock's musical journey playing piano in honky tonks and nightclubs throughout the South and the characters he meets including non-household names Big John, Gene Franklin, Texas Ray, Bashful Bobby Jubal et al. This world no longer exists and is well documented here. There is a sequel to this book, where the author hits the big time penning D-I-V-O-R-C-E, He Stopped Loving Her Today and more. A humorous, occasionally dark ride through music history.
