Good choice for the End of Sale Cisco voice systems
Although the Cisco UC320 and UC500 series voice systems have gone end of life, they are still around, and I still have customers using them. The FXS port on the UC320 at one customer went bad (and there is only 1). I was able to add this to the system to resolve that problem as well as provide room to expand both FXS ports and phone lines in the future.
While the SPA8800 is a little funky and at times, I wondered if it was actually working, once it comes online, the voice system recognizes it and configuration is simple.
By funky, the first time I plugged it in to test, there was a lot of clicking, blinking lights, seemingly rebooting repeatedly, and not showing up in the GUI. Well, I guess that's normal, because after I let that go for a bit, it showed up and was added easily to my test system. When I took it to the client site for install, it took about 10 minutes, if I remember correctly, maybe a little longer, so be discovered and show up in the GUI on the phone system, but once there, configuration was about 5 minutes, problem solved, and I was out of there.
I love Cisco products (and I worked for Cisco for about 8 years), but the demise of the small business voice systems has caused me a real problem. that's where eBay comes in, because they are out there. And lets face it, most Cisco products (not all) just seem to run forever.
