good affordable lens with the usual sigma quality
I have bought this lens with a view to expanding a photography business I have been putting together, I wanted a good quality lens with a zoom facility that I could use for motorcycle racing, it was for me a question of affordability as the business is in its infancy and start up costs for equipment can be prohibitive. Sigma do several mid range telephoto lenses and I had to decide where to go in relation to what I wanted to achieve. I looked at the 100-400 canon IS yes a quality piece of machinery but cost wise even second hand showed that with the current financial climate it was getting to nearly three times the cost of the sigma. I have used the sigma now twice and have been suitably impressed with the results there is a little fade if used at the very end of the zoom but with the processors in cameras and mine is 1.6 i am getting 640mm that is more than enough for what i need. The lens is relatively light for instance compared to the ultra prime lenses 300 f2.8 sigma, with the HSM it is pretty fast on auto focus and panning with the lens is easy if like me the weight inst an issue, the image stability with the lens also helps greatly when you are following a bike travelling at up to 200mph so really its a case of does it suit me yes, it fits into my back pack you can use it with a 1.4 converter although focusing is a little slower it still gives value for money and in today's current climate that has to be a must when spending your hard earned monies, i hope it helps and as always enjoy your hobby

450d a laymans review
I now have two 450d and a 350d as i am expanding into selling shots for magazines and calenders etc, the 450D's i have give me great flexibility and being lightweight i can haul both of them around easily. The 12 million pixel range allows me to blow up to A3 poster size without the drop off in quality i got with the D60 i had or the 10d i still carry in my car. I have found that the various modes from programme can give me excellent results but bracketing the metering myself usually produces the single shot i am looking for. Obviously if i was to turn pro then i would have to step up my gear but can i justify £4000 for the 1DS no! do i need full rame not really at present so i dont need the 5d so compromised with the 450d would i recommend the 450 abseloutely i have large hands and sausage fingers and found the 400d too small!! the 450 is a good balanced camera and as a medium level SLR there is not much better on the market and if you can afford l series lenses the results are just as stunning as the 1 ds so if your starting out/ a reasonably active amateur i would recommend the 450d without hesiation hope it helps

40D or 450D that is the question
I bought the 40d as i was a little wary of the build quality of the 450D. I find the 450 is light and a bit plastic in its build, it is very good for carrying around your neck if on a long walk or hike tote spot where you want to be. The 40D has a much more solid feel to it, if like me you have big hands i fell the 40D will give you more control with buttons that are easier to find and use. The 10.1 Million pixel sensor ok its smaller than the 450 at 12.2 but the differing size of the picture is not really noticable. You can pick up a decent 40D with little use on it as a body for about £450 which is slightly more expensive than the 450 but as the adage goes you get what you pay for. The 17-85is lens which seems to come as standard with the 40D is fast and accurate and although you lose a few stops with the IS on the images are very good if usedwith enough light, the 40D also shares a host of common menus ith the 450 i do find the mirror is not as noisy as the 450 but with live view and sensor cleaning as standard canon seem to have got it right. Would i recommend the 40D yes absolutely for the dedicated amateurs out there it is a strong robust camera, would i buy the 50D the answer to that would be no aside from the slightly larger processor i dont think the extra money is worth it for the very little difference between the two cameras. I hope it helps and as always enjoy the photography keep on snapping
