Handbook of Encouragement
For anyone who has been affected in any way by alcoholism in a family member or close friend this is a handbook explaining how Al Anon Family Groups work to support them. It explains the framework of the organisation, the structure of meetings, the 12 Step Programme, the 12 Traditions and the Concepts, providing people who have lived chunks of their lives in the chaos that accompanies addiction (alcohol in this case) with the means to access support, skills, and practical help to get their own life back on track regardless of what happens to their alcoholic family member or friend. For people who feel they have tried everything and failed this shows how joining an Al Anon group and attending regularly can help to restore hope..

Beautiful, comprehensive, accessible at all levels
The most beautiful and comprehensive educational pop-up book covering sex, conception, pregnancy and birth, including information about spermatogenesis and DNA. Can be appreciated at many levels. The brightly illustrated pop up pages can be used with younger book lovers or non-readers to describe the processes involved in reproduction. The more advanced readers and adults might appreciate all the detail in the smaller print which are more scientific. Absolutely classic. I am retired now, but this was one of the books I used to teach sex education for many years with very positive evaluations.

For children or adults of alcoholic parents
A "day at a time" type of book, with daily readings which will be familiar to members of Al Anon Family Groups. This one has been written particularly for those who have or had alcoholic parents. Each daily reading helps the reader to recognise behaviours that children of alcoholics develop to "get through", and addresses those which might need to change to enable healing from deep within. Full of comfort, consolation, encouragement and as the title suggests hope the present moment. The principles could readily be applied to children of parents with other addictions too.
