- KurzbeschreibungRegardless of the variety of technologies used in <br>polymer processing they all require artificial <br>radiation source and absorbing medium. Solar <br>radiation, although still expanding field, has not <br>been widely studied for the purposes of polymer <br>processing. A multi-stage solar energy concentrating <br>system has been developed and its feasibility as a <br>radiation source for polymer joining, ageing and <br>adhesive curing has been explored. Optical ray <br>tracing, variable deterministic and 3D combined <br>computer models of SEC facility have been created. <br>The energy transfer, radiation absorption with heat <br>generation and transfer in the irradiated polymer <br>have been modeled. The experimental studies have <br>demonstrated that transparent and colored, similar <br>and dissimilar polymers can be successfully joined. <br>Polymer ageing by ultra-accelerated exposure to <br>concentrated sunlight and adhesive curing have been <br>successfully performed. The research should be <br>useful to educators or professionals in the solar <br>energy, polymer processing and radiation curing <br>fields.
