- Kurzbeschreibung<p>In the 21st century, the entire world is suffering from freshwater scarcity due to the ever-increasing water demand in different sectors, worldwide population growth and increasing pollution of vital freshwater resources. Therefore, efficient planning and management of water resources is indispensable to ensure sustainable development. Statistical analyses of hydrologic time series play a central role in the planning and management of water resources. Based on a thorough review of literature and personal research experience of the authors on this topic it has been revealed that there is an urgent need to have a book dealing with the theory of time series analyses as well as their application to hydrology. Such a book is currently lacking in the field of water resources engineering. The present book is an attempt to fulfill this gap. This book provides a comprehensive overview of time series characteristics in hydrology, describes methodology for applying 31 available statistical tests for determining the time series characteristics, explores the building of stochastic models (AR, MA, ARMA) for time series, demonstrates the application of most of the time series tests through a case study in India (authors' own work) as well as evaluates comparative performance of the time series tests (authors' own work), together with some invited case studies from other researchers. Finally, it discusses future research and development needs in the area of time series analysis for water resources development and management. This book will be useful to the undergraduate and postgraduate students, and researchers of civil, environmental, agricultural, and ecological engineering fields as well as to the practicing hydrologists and hydrogeologists, particularly those in developing nations.</p>
