The first thing that struck me when I opened up the back of my VT999, and looked at the circuit board was "I'm gonna need a finer tip on my soldering iron and a magnifying glass". All of the points that you will be soldering things to are very small and very close together, so a fine tipped soldering iron and fine gauge solder, and probably a magnifying device are in order (and a steady hand helps). The modification itself is very straight forward, simply a matter of adding a switch, and soldering the components and wires into the right places, the whole process only took 20 minutes. How does is sound? I upgraded the tube while I had thing thing open (Sovtek 12AX7WA) and plugged it into the effects loop circuit of my Fender Princeton 112, and was very pleasantly surprised. Gone is the awkward on/off crunch of the stock setup and in it's place is much smoother, controllable overdrive sound. It really brought some life to this solid state amp, and I'm looking forward to trying it with my tube amp. The only concerns I have are about durability as the solder points to the circuit board are tiny, but that has more to do with my janky soldering skills.Vollständige Rezension lesen

Have had the Monster Tube for a couple years and usedit off and on but never got quite the right sound. Installed the BitMo Kit and also upgraded to a 12AX7/ECC83 - JJ Electronics tube. Tried it out a t home and thought it was a little better, much cleaner on low gain and great sustain on high gain. Then I used it out - wow - love the sound; that smooth tube drive I have been looking for. Will definitely be a regular part of my gear from now on. One word of caution, the soldering must be done very carefully, small - close together spots on the circuit board, but the instructions are well illustrated and easy to follow. Worth every penny, don't know why Behringer doesn't build them this way from the factory.

This was definitely worth the effort and the approximately twenty bucks! Sure, you might find the parts for less, but good luck working out where they go! Give the designer his due! Other changes I’ve made to my pedal: 1. I replaced the 12AX7 standard vacuum tube with a Russian one from Electro-harmonix for a little bit nicer overdrive sound. 2. I added a 1k resistor from the master gain pot’s center pin to ground to drop drive gain to approximately one when the pot is at center position. I like being able to switch between overdrive and clean without having to set the master gain control to nearly full off, where it’s really touchy.

I really can not tell de difference between the reported three settings. The best option I could recommend is don’t buy the pedal don’t buy the mod and save the money for a better pedal, but if you already bought or have he pedal just get a good tube that costs about the same as the mod and you will notice a real improvement in the sound. The most positive thing I can say is that the instructions are really clear and it is really easy to install (if you have the right tools) an it doesn’t alter too much the aesthetics of the pedal

This is one of the most amazing mods I have ever done! British, Blues, and Metal just by flipping a little switch. I loved this pedal to begin with but WOW it is so versatile now. The instructions were easy to follow but you need a steady hand to solder the connections on the VT999 board. Once your done you will be pleasantly surprised at what this mod can do for your tones. If you have this pedal you should really get this mod!!
