Gorgeous Nostalgia Machine with Comfortable Gamepad and "What If" Potential
I won't go into detail about the merit or demerit of a Sega Saturn. It's a console we would have loved to have been successful worldwide, and it could have been but wasn't for a few reasons.
This is the original Japanese release with the wider box and beautiful button layout, and light gray/black/blue colors. If you can get an untarnished system, you will have one of the most beautiful home consoles in history.
Although the box is rather wide, it somewhat compensates for it by having a thinner profile. It still is not as good a design as the subsequent releases that were squarer but it's OK. Being the Japanese console, it will only play Japanese games unless you work around it. The internal memory is very, very small and you will need a memory cartridge. The benefit of the original Sega cartridges is it will not expand or risk damaging the pins unlike third party ones.
All in all, the Saturn had some great games in the West and especially in Japan. If you speak the language, that is a huge benefit. If you don't, you can still enjoy quite a few games that don't really require reading/listening, or sometimes even have English text and audio.
This is a good value if you obtain a complete in box version for around a hundred, by itself then much less. It's better to hold off until you find a good listing or in a local shop.
