    Great for both music lovers and history buffs!

    This great book, along with Vol 2, gives the history of these hymns, including information about the writers of both the music and the lyrics. These are hymns important to both Catholics and Protestants, and it is interesting to see the crossover. This book has gotten me much more interested in the history of England and Europe and the religious and political struggles our ancestors experienced. The layout of the book has the hymn (just like you would find in your hymnal at your church) on the left page and the description on the facing page. The only critique I have is that the publisher opted for the page edges to randomly overlap each other. Although this "scrapbook-like" feature may be visually appealing, it makes it slightly more difficult to turn pages, especially if, like me, you ...

    Sweeten Your Day

    Because a lot of these are familiar to me (sr. citizen) it is easy to feel at home with them. But whether I knew them or not, it is the page detailing the author and the conditions under which it was penned that makes them special. This book often helps me begin my morning meditation which I believe helps to sweeten the rest of my day.

    Wonderful book

    I love this whole series of books. I find the stories related to the writer and the hymns so inspirational and it makes the hymns mean even more meaningful to me. I often use them as my devotional and have been so blessed . It is the best series of books about the stories behind our great hymns, and I have learned a lot of new ones, too. I wouldn't part with these books. A great buy!

    More han a few words. I bought several of these for friends and churches. Great add: TRADITIONAL HYMNS WE LOVE

    Great! I bought several for churches and friends. EBAY should use :"WE SING HYMNS HERE" for an add campaign. The church has split now due to traditional and contemporary music. Sad, I think. Have given this book to at least churches and many friends. We may start a ministry to the homebound who can't get to church now, but love to sing he old hymns !!!! Use the add campaign slogan. It is yours.

    Title is appropriate to the content of the book.

    This is a great book which I think everyone who loves church music should have in their library. The songs with music are on the left side, and the history of that song is on the right side. I've discovered some beautiful old songs with wonderful words written to lovely music. The histories are very interesting.
