Seminal
Punk attitude right out of the blocks with "1969"! Then a hard slap to the groin with "I Wanna Be Your Dog." The slogging dirge of "We Will Fall" at 10:15 puts a screeching halt to my good-time party though, especially since the entire CD only clocks in at 34:35. After one play, I deleted the song from the CD's playlist. Back to cool punk simplicity with "No Fun," "Real Cool Time," "Not Right," and "Little Doll." "Ann" is ethereal and pretty, an odd counterpoint to the album. Bad thing? Nah. If you're unfamiliar with The Stooges, this CD would be a great introduction. Iggy Pop & the Stooges -Seminal music icons! This album (1968) predated Punk, and certainly Grunge, yet without the Stooges setting a blazing path, these 2 genres might not have the strong foundation legs they sit on. As for Rock, this album sits in no shadows, it holds it's own with Rock & Blues legends, popular at the time (anyone ranging from the Stones, the Doors, MC5, Howlin' Wolf, Dylan, Velvet Underground or Bowie), with a sound often gritty, sometimes Big Barrel, (and even Psychedelic-Trippy too), with the best of 'em, but most memorably always -"RAW". (Nonstop, and always way ahead of his time), IGGY, is still Sexy L.A.M.F. today, and gives a killer performance every time. "And hey, if you thought Hendrix setting his guitar on Fire was a ... Iggy Pop & the Stooges -Seminal music icons! best proto-punk album of all time
It's one of the best proto-punk albums to introduce of one of rock most top influential band of garage/punk/hardcore genre.Though,this album was produced by john cale of velvet underground and was more reflected of velvet underground influences than later albums like Funhouse or Raw Power;it's still a treat to Stooges fans.As well as fans from any musical genre.It's incapsulated the late 60"s feeling from the Ann Arbor musical scene.It's one of the best proto-punk albums to introduce of one of rock most top influential band of garage/punk/hardcore genre.Though,this album was produced by john cale of velvet underground and was more reflected of velvet underground influences than later albums like Funhouse or Raw Power;it's still a treat to Stooges fans.As well as fans from any musical genre.It's incapsulated the late 60"s feeling from the Ann Arbor musical scene.
