Product Information

Inspired by the arcade's 1987 side-scrolling shooter, this 3D PS2 version of R-Type places players in control of a well-armed, side-scrolling spaceship for some old fashioned blast-away combat action. R-Type Final is designed to bring on the tense, fast-paced feel of the original coin-op game while adding console-friendly features such as customizable ships, multiple difficulty settings, and a mode that allows player to battle against AI-controlled versions of their own ships. Following the four games it introduced stateside in 2002, Fresh Games publishes R-Type Final in the U.S. and Canada, returning to its strategy of bringing distinct Japanese console games to North American gamers.

    The shipping was fast which is nice for the holidays. It was securely packed and the item is as described. I was a little worried at first but after replacing the batteries the toy worked. The hand button might need fixing soon but that's a common issue with this type of toy and how old they are. Overall I'm super happy with it and I know my daughter will be thrilled we were able to find this toy for her birthday! A+++

    Great classic shoot em up

    Great variety is the strong point of this game. It has 100 customizable ships and 7 levels. Each level can be slightly different each time you play it (for example, you could go in level 2.1 instead of 2.0). However, like any other R-type games or most classic shoot em up, it suffers from slow pace problem. The camera is always moving slowly, even though you can adjust the speed of your ship. Every time you fail to beat the boss, you'll have to fall back to the check point. And it takes quite a while to reach the boss again because things are slow. It doesn't mean the game is easy though. Some projectiles can move pretty fast. To make matter worse, due to the limitation of ps2, sometimes, when things get crazy, it can go slow motion. It probably won't happen if they stick with 2d ...

    I gotta say, I am rather impressed with ...

    I gotta say, I am rather impressed with this game! And I dare say it’s my favorite R-Type game! This game has spot on gameplay, decent graphics and a good soundtrack. I enjoy this one I will be recording a playthrough on my YouTube channel at some point.

    Best Game of Its Franchise

    Like the title states, this game is considered to be the pinnacle of the R-type series. Coming from one of the big-name shmup franchises, this game is solid. Great graphics, a multitude of ships and weapons options, good music/sound effects, this game is a must-have for shmup collectors. Like many others, I play this game in spurts from time to time unlocking ships here and there.
