When the starter is used, battery voltage falls to around 8 volts under load. This will result in a weak spark, or no spark at all with the original 3 ohm 12 volt coil. With an 8 volt coil, the spark is strong and the vehicle will start much more easily. This is a good quality coil with ballast resistor fitted.
