Christmas After All sums it up during the Great Depression. You didn't know if you would be able to get a present or even food in those days
This book captures my growing-up days in Indiana, though in a different decade than the Great Depression. My late Mom was a child of the Great Depression. I was born in 1957. Mom would take us approximately 30 miles away to Indianapolis for clothing, shoes, etc twice a year. We didn't have all of the malls, etc to visit. During Christmas time the stores had animated window displays, train rides and, of course, Monument Circle (Victory) which was decorated with Christmas lights. Most of those lovely old stores (some with 8 floors or more of everything you would ever want except cars and groceries) are now insurance companies, apartments, businesses, etc.
