Synopsis
Data and software are the two most important tools for developing geographic information system (GIS) applications. This book presents a step-by-step approach covering GIS application case studies, examples, and costs associated with hardware, software, data conversion, and implementation. It addresses a broad range of GIS issues, from basic definitions to specific applications, teaching how to utilize GIS tools and implement them in a practical and cost-effective manner in the fields of water, wastewater, and stormwater management. Written in textbook format with stylistic focus on the inductive presentation of examples before principles, this book provides state-of-the-art information about the tools required to develop GIS applications for water, wastewater, and stormwater systems. This book is geared for any professional involved in the management and operation of water, wastewater, and stormwater systems, as well as civil and environmental project engineers and project managers. With a substantial amount of pictures, diagrams, graphs, and illustrations, this book is also suitable for use in the classroom. Each chapter begins with learning objectives, and ends with a chapter summary and practice problems that can be used as assignments for the student. About the Author Uzair (Sam) M. Shamsi is an engineer with Chester Engineers, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and an adjust professor at the University of Pittsburgh, where he teaches GIS and hydrology. Product Reviews This book is a 'must read' for anyone involved in implementing a GIS for a water or wastewater utility... The book is filled with numerous examples of GIS applications in the water industry that are both current and practical. The extensive listings of GIS data, software, and Internet resources will help you build the right kind of GIS for your system-- John Lucey, Executive Vice President and General Manager, USFiler Engineering & Construction., Data and software are the two most important tools for developing geographic information system (GIS) applications. - r***1 (179)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter KaufThe book was exactly as described and arrived quickly. The only problem is a recurring one with this seller and other similar sellers - the book is poorly packaged in a plastic envelope and gets heavily bumped in shipping. I would like to see the books wrapped before shipment, but I understand this can't be done for cost reason. Luckily it isn't an expensive book, and I will continue to purchase basic books from this seller. A+++++
- k***a (326)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzter MonatBestätigter KaufPositive experience but could be better. Item description was accurate but, it was shipped in a simple bag with no carton or any protection. The bag was broken in places and the USPS bent the book like it was a newspaper and ruined what was an excellent looking book. That was clearly the USPS fault but a "Do Not Bend" or carton would help next time. Otherwise accurate description, value, condition and Fast shipping. I'm a returning customer and will keep buying from World of Books
