Best purchase ever. I love my new Joying radio. The 10.1" with volume knob fits my 2017 Jeep JK perfectly and was super easy to install. Shipping was super fast and the communication with this seller was top notch. I have dealt with other China companies that take forever to ship and keep you in the dark. Not this company. Huge Upgrade for the Forester
FIRST IMPRESSIONS: -This unit made my outdated Subaru Forester feel like a brand new car. -This screen is huge. If you want a big screen, this is the head unit to get. -The display looks and feels like a premium product. The touch screen is just as responsive as an iPad, and the colors and clarity are just as good, too. -In my 2018 Forester Touring 2.5i, the unit powers up almost instantly when I start the car. -There is little latency in showing the backup camera after putting the car in reverse, even right after starting the car. APPLE CARPLAY -If you plan to use CarPlay almost exclusively, this unit is perfect—CarPlay is truly wireless in this model. -If you turn off the car while CarPlay is in use, it will launch CarPlay automatically on startup the next time you start the car, and ... APPLE CARPLAY -If you plan to use CarPlay almost exclusively, this unit is perfect—CarPlay is truly wireless in this model. -If you turn off the car while CarPlay is in use, it will launch CarPlay automatically on startup the next time you start the car, and it will automatically connect to your iPhone wirelessly. -From turning on the car to displaying CarPlay on the screen takes about 5-10 seconds. -Despite the screen being larger than most cars’ head units, Apple CarPlay scales nicely on the large display, and doesn’t look “blown up” to fit. FIT & FINISH: -I did not install this myself, although I think I probably could have. The person who installed it said the unit was plug and play. There was no splicing/wire-cutting required to fully install this unit. 100% plug and play. If you’re comfortable pulling your dash apart and putting it back together, I say go for it yourself. -The backup camera works flawlessly. The screen snaps right to the backup camera as soon as I put the car in reverse. The large screen really shows off the low-resolution of the stock Subaru camera, but that’s no fault of Joying. -The plastic surrounding the climate vents and knobs was a perfect fit, which really ”sells” the unit in the car. -While it doesn’t necessarily look “stock,” due to the fact that it’s a large screen that partially covers the air vents and climate knobs, it definitely looks like it belongs in the car. Not at all janky looking. JOYING LAUNCHER -The Joying launcher (operating system) is pretty nice, definitely better than my stock Subaru unit. It allows for a lot of control—more control than you get in most cars’ stock head units. (change music level while in reverse, set different screen brightness for when headlights are turned on, etc.) -Even if you intend to use CarPlay 100% of the time, you will still need to use the Joying launcher here and there to adjust system functions like adding new phones, adjusting steering wheel controls, etc. -Tethered to your phone, or on a wifi network, the Google Play store allows you to download many apps you would not typically find in a car (perhaps for good reason lol) such as HBO Max, Amazon Prime Video, Tinder, and many many others. -Oddly, once you download an app, you cannot reorganize the app menu on the Joying launcher. So you can’t put the app icons where you want them (unless I just haven’t figured it out. It definitely isn’t hold/drag/drop like you might expect). -The Home Screen of the Joying Launcher is also not configurable, which is a slight bummer. -Assigning steering wheel buttons is dead-easy, and highly configurable. It would be nice if you could assign a button to launch a specific app, but that is not available. -You also cannot assign CarPlay-specific steering wheel controls. Would be nice to activate Siri with the microphone button. SUMMARY This head unit is a major upgrade for anybody with a car that with even slightly outdated tech. When CarPlay is running, this display makes my Subaru look and feel like a Tesla. While the Joying software doesn’t feel as polished as maybe some of the nicest vehicles on the market, it is miles ahead of most cars’ software, and will feel that way. Being an Android unit, there are also other car launchers available, with some very promising ones currently in development (VIVID Car Launcher). That customizability factor really sets this unit apart from any stock unit. Overall the Joying 11.6” head unit is an incredible upgrade to my Forester and feels futuristic and stylish.
