The events of September 11 left an indelible mark on most Americans, and certainly on those in the New York City area. Yet as fresh as the images seem, it's easy to forget the actual grit, sacrifice, and uncertainty of that day. Director Oliver Stone captures the essence of 9/11 by focusing on the true story of two Port Authority Police Department officers who were trapped beneath the wreckage of the fallen World Trade Center. Veteran officer Sergeant John McLoughlin (Nicholas Cage) and his team, including rookie Will Jimeno (Michael Pena) are gathering equipment to enter the burning Twin Towers when the concourse comes crashing down around them. Twenty feet below the surface, pinned by debris and unable to reach anyone by radio, the officers must rely on their own will--and on each other--to survive. Above ground, their families watch the towers fall, uncertain whether or not McLoughlin and Jimeno are there, since they are normally assigned to the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Like so many that day, Donna McLoughlin (Maria Bello) and Allison Jimeno (Maggie Gyllenhaal) wait for news at home surrounded by their families, fearing the worst and praying for the best. Stone's film depicts the horror and heartbreak of the victims, survivors, and their families with an understated, subtle touch. From the ash and dust covering everyone and everything to the dazed expressions of the workers leaving the towers to the steaming twisted metal remains of the World Trade Center, attention to detail is exceedingly realistic. Rather than being political or sensationalistic, this is a film about everyday heroes--men and women doing their best in the face of an unspeakable event. It may be just one story of many from September 11, but it represents the efforts, emotions, and reactions of so many on that fateful day.

The world saw evil that day. Two men saw something else. In the aftermath of the World Trade Center disaster, hope is still alive. Refusing to bow down to terrorism, rescuers and family of the victims press forward. This is the true story of John McLoughlin and William J. Jimeno, the last two survivors extracted from Ground Zero and the rescuers who never gave up. Nic Cage gives a very strong performance in this great movie about what happened on that fateful day in New York. Cage stars as a member of the fire crew who risked his life tosave trapped civilians who were in the twin towers and ends up trapped instead along side his colleague. Enjoy This is a good film its a couple of notches up from a disaster movie, but given the subject matter it does entertain. People looking for answers or something profound in this will be disappointed. try and see 9.11 which was the documentry movie shot at the time of the disaster. This movie is a piece of bubblegum that does not aim to say much, it wants to entertain and it does, nic cage is as usual fantastic and lifts his charactor off the page. a well shot movie with great actors that does what it says on the box. its not made to give answers or be political agian try anything that michael moore has produced. tell me why do film boffins and stuck up phoney intellectuals always have to knock films like this. Stick 2 fingers up at them and see the film and enjoy. Oliver Stone has outdone himself. I said that Nixon was the worst film he had ever made, but this dull, sloppy, boring mess of a fillm takes the cake as the worst dog of a film he has ever made. You learn nothing about the characters, and little else about what was really happening on that day in New York. What you do get instead is something that plays like a bad disaster telemovie about two men tapped in rubble. And the script is so bad it reduced the audience I watched this with to unintentional laughter on two occasions. The heroes and memory of the people who died on September 11 deseve a better film than this waste of time. United 93 was a very good analysis of that event, and this film is not in its league at all. Hopefully, a good movie about what happened at the World Trade Center will be made one day, but this is not it.

A true story about events what happened on 9/11, the story is about the courage of two New York police officers that kept each other wake after they got trapped when the tower that they were in whist getting the survivors out collapsed, after the tower that they was in; was badly damaged by a passenger plane that crashes that into it. A well made true story, with outstanding acting from the all of the cast of this movie. 10+++++/10 Movie.A true story about events what happened on 9/11, the story is about the courage of two New York police officers that kept each other wake after they got trapped when the tower that they were in whist getting the survivors out collapsed, after the tower that they was in; was badly damaged by a passenger plane that crashes that into it. Powerful, very emotional true story of two New York policemen trapped in the wreckage when the World Trade Center collapsed. The agony of the men and of their wives and families is very real. Nicolas Cage heads a strong cast.

This film really hits home about the World Trade Centre disaster. The first time I watched this film was actually quite true to the real events, I loved the fact that It was as near as near could get, The bit that brought a tear to my eye was when John (nicholas cage) was trapped in a pile of rubble, and started to hallucinate, seeing his Wife Donna (maria bello) and telling her that he couldn t get out, of course the encouragement from her helped get him out in the end, then he gets lifted out, even though he is unable to move, all the way down to the ambulance he thanks each and everyone, Firefighters, work colleagues for getting him out, that was the bit that got me most. All round this film is a very moving tribute to people who will never forget the day the planes crashed into the ... This film really hits home about the World Trade Centre disaster.
