A great-sounding Fender amp that won’t break your back.
This is, basically, a Blackface Deluxe Reverb, in terms of sound and functionality, but at 23lbs, it’s almost half the weight of the equivalent 65 reissue.
This amp is all digital, but to all intents and purposes, it sounds, looks and behaves just like a Deluxe. I love it! In addition, it offers two important bits of added functionality . It has a switchable output which takes the a from a nominal and pretty loud 100w (equivalent to 22w tube power) in gentle steps, right down to a front-room-friendly 0.2w. And it has a very useable balanced, compensated line out with a choice of flat response and two different mic simulations.
The only question for me, as a diehard lover of classic handwired tube amps is the one of durability and repairability. Old-school amps could usually be fixed cheaply, with not much more than a soldering iron and a bit of basic electronics knowledge. I’m told all that sits inside the Tone Master Deluxe’s chassis is four small circuit boards. If any of them dies, how readily can they be replaced, l wonder, and what cost?
