Superman: Red Son a disappointment for fans of the original work
Submitted for your approval: how truly hard can it be? The genre of animated film based on comic book superheroes is literally a no brainer for the comic book art form. After all, comics are cinematic storyboards in magazine form, thus saving the animators/film makers many $100,000’s in production over all. Additionally, such yields ample opportunities to add content for the purposes of running time, making for a more expanded and value experience for the target audience—which should always be a laser focus of these mediums. Do so, and you have all the free word of mouth advertising for the common(or non fandom) market you could ask for. Expectations were high for this most beloved DC “Elseworlds” of Superman, yet I found it to fall flat and short early on and failing to ever pick up steam and finally deliver the goods. What’s more, none of the established/familiar voices for the characters sadly were used in this production. Failure upon failure upon failure—Warner/DC’s modus operandi of late. There’s a “motion comic” version of the original RED SON on YouTube I highly recommend well over this.
