Very glad I went with the direct connect charger instead of the mobile charger, no worries with the direct connect
Makes it very convenient to charge, night and day to he 110 mobile charger I was using. Could have went with the 220 mobile charger but wasn’t that big of a difference in purchase/installation cost since I installed myself , deal with wife, I installed it but it’s certified with city so she knows I did the installation right. Installation hints
I park outdoors in a very wintry location. Bought this as backup in case my identical unit dies and if that doesn’t happen, I will daisychain it when I get my Cybertruck. It is important that you follow the instructions and torque the connections as instructed. Loose connections get hot. And I recommend bringing the short wires that have ferrules on them out the bottom and into a 4x4 waterproof box where you connect to your 6 gauge copper wires. This unit has more capabilities than many chargers costing more and up to four can be connected to share the same 240V power line making installation and charging at home less expensive. Do your homework 1st
The Tesla wall charger is great but make sure your breaker box has enough amperage to add this charger. Mine did not and I had to upgrade my electrical service too 200 amp. Tesla Gen 2 High Output Charger
This charger works best for Tesla Model S & X that can take a higher charge rate of 40 to 72 Amps. The new Gen3 chargers do not charge at the higher rates and, therefore, take a longer time to charge. I have a Model X with the high charge feature that takes 72 Amps and a Model S that takes 40 Amps. With this charger I can charge both cars in one night. If you own a Tesla, this charger ought to be in your garage. It's easy to connect to your vehicle. The best thing is that it can be set to the source amperage so you don't ever go over current. 2nd generation charger has some advantages
Tesla’s 2nd generation charger has two advantages over the 3rd generation charger that I like. This 2nd gen still supports charging at 72 amps, rather than the 48 amp max on the 3rd gen charger. More importantly for me, the cord is 24 feet in length rather than the new maximum of 18 feet. That extra six feet makes all the difference in my garage. Perfect if you have a Tesla
I bought this to pair with my new Model S 75D that I took delivery on 3 weeks ago. Its in addition to my NEMA 14-50 plug that I also installed to charge my S and for my RV.
