Great welder for the money
I researched MIG welders for a few weeks and had narrowed it down to the Millermatic 211, the Lincoln Power MIG 180 and the Lincoln Weldpac 180. Based on the research, I knew I needed a 220V welder. While the Miller was an amazing welder, I could not see spending $1,200. I then compared the Weldpac to the Power MIG. The units are very similar. The only real difference I could see was the Power MIG had a variable dial for power versus the specific set points on the Weldpac. There is also a bit more plastic on the Weldpac than the Power MIG. I was able to buy the Weldpac for about $325 less than the Power MIG so thought that was a fair trade off.
I have about 4 hours of welding on the Weldpac and it has performed flawlessly. Most of the welding has been on lighter sheet metal, doing patch panels on a car I am restoring. I did have a bit of a problem setting up the unit, but that was clearly my issue. I could not get the gas to flow through to the gun. After going through the whole set up, I had not seated the gun cable firmly into the unit. Once I corrected this operator error, I had very smooth welds. Time will tell if how well it holds up, but I am optimistic. A friend has the Weldpac 155, no longer made, and he has had no problems over the past 6 years of near daily use.
