SynopsisIn this memoir, iconic singer Linda Ronstadt weaves together a captivating story of her origins in Tucson, Arizona, and her rise to stardom in the Southern California music scene of the 1960s and '70s. Tracing the timeline of her remarkable life, Linda Ronstadt, whose forty-five year career has encompassed a wide array of musical styles, weaves together a captivating story of her origins in Tucson, Arizona, and her rise to stardom in the Southern California music scene of the 1960s and '70s. Linda Ronstadt was born into a musical family, and her childhood was filled with everything from Gilbert and Sullivan to Mexican folk music to jazz and opera. Her artistic curiosity blossomed early, and she and her siblings began performing their own music for anyone who would listen. Now, in this beautifully crafted memoir, Ronstadt tells the story of her wide-ranging and utterly unique musical journey. Ronstadt arrived in Los Angeles just as the folkrock movement was beginning to bloom, setting the stage for the development of country-rock. As part of the coterie of like-minded artists who played at the famed Troubadour club in West Hollywood, she helped define the musical style that dominated American music in the 1970s. One of her early backup bands went on to become the Eagles, and Linda went on to become the most successful female artist of the decade. In Simple Dreams , Ronstadt reveals the eclectic and fascinating journey that led to her long-lasting success, including stories behind many of her beloved songs. And she describes it all in a voice as beautiful as the one that sang "Heart Like a Wheel"--longing, graceful, and authentic., Tracing the timeline of her remarkable life, Linda Ronstadt, whose forty-five year career has encompassed a wide array of musical styles, weaves together a captivating story of her origins in Tucson, Arizona, and her rise to stardom in the Southern California music scene of the 1960s and '70s. • Good autobiography

This is a great, fast reading autobiography by one of the best singers of the last quarter of the past century. You can read this from beginnig to end or go through random chapters and still be entertained, and educated. The stories she has... just read the book!! Too bad the voice is gone.... but we still have her recordings.

  • Linda Ronstadt: Simple Dreams

SO MUCH detail about the music business, each song, the arrangements, musicians and all the ins & outs of making the records in addition to all the people who worked with Linda Ronstadt. I would have liked to read more personal info about Linda rather than just the music end of things. She didn't go into her relationships, only mentioned a little bit about Jerry Brown. She did write about her early days growing up in Arizona and her love of horses. If someone is really interested in the music industry, there is a lot of info about which songs she chose & why, the places she performed, and the many influences that caused her to explore many kinds of music. She briefly mentions her encounters with musicians and record producers, her experience with Jim Morrison and her connections with so many famous musicians from the Eagles to Emmylou Harris to Aaron Neville. Her Nelson Riddle connection and her Broadway appearances were interesting.

  • It’s real.

I’m not so sure that I would use the word compelling to describe it, and in fact when my daughter started to read it I became a little uncomfortable with all the mention of drugs and Socialism and Linda Ronstadt lifestyle. But it is what it is and it tells a story whether complementaryTo her or not.

  • A little boring

I love Linda Ronstadt’s music, but this book was a little boring. More like a diary of her experiences in life. I was looking forward to the end...It did not hold my interest very well.
