Black & White
Among other things, the film 'The Brothers Bloom' is notable its titular characters spending the entire movie wearing various combinations of black and white. For me the plot, good as it was, became secondary to costuming as I savored each new scene and wardrobe change. Admittedly it's unlikely that real brothers would both dress this way (Andre and Keith Churchill being a possible exception), but one can dream. The fact that this severe palette worked so well in a color film serves as a lesson -- color is a useful tool, but style does not depend upon it. Many notables have done more with less -- think of Coco Chanel's little black dress, Johnny Cash's 'customary suits of solemn black,' Steve Martin, who in his early days inevitably wore white suits, or writer Tom Wolfe, who still does.
