![]() Zerberus-Guitars will have a
booth at the Summer NAMM in Nashville July 12 - 14. If you plan to attend the Summer NAMM, it would be our pleasure to welcome you at our booth. We will bring some of our handcrafted custom-guitars with us. The website will be updated frequently to provide more informations about the guitars that will travel to Nashville. ....just a guitar - so what
?
You are wrong - this Zerberus-Guitars Hydra Mark II is not just a guitar as much as a Lamborghini Diablo is not just a car. The Hydra II we are talking about was made mostly in handycraft in a small batch of only 120 pcs. worldwide. This Hydra has Serial Number H20142007. This guitar might become a very valuable collector´s item one day. I realy do my best to make the Zerberus-Guitars a Legend :) But even if it does´nt become a collector´s item - it is an amazing guitar with an incredible versatile sound and it is more than just a musical instrument - it is a sculpture and a piece of art. You must see that with your own eyes to believe it. But it is not only the wonderfull tops that make the Hydra II so extraordinary. It´s the design, the concept, the excellent hardware and selected tonewoods and many more things to explore. But the story of the Hydra II hardly can be told without telling a little bit about the person who brought this guitar into being. My name is Frank. I was born in 1965 and I started playing guitar when I was 10 years old. When I was 15, I built my first custom guitar with the help and assistance of a very old carpenter. Over the years I have been playing in several bands, on stages in studios in pubs and mostly in rehearsall rooms and I built some more guitars just for fun. Playing in different bands forced me to use several guitars. Beeing tired of changing my guitars for every gig, I often wished to have one guitar that realy could be a jack of all trades. With this requirement in mind, in 2002 I launched the Zerberus-Guitars company in Germany. The Hydra, I am talking about began it´s live as
a custom guitar. The custom Hydra prototype was
sold and the customer became a friend who sill is in love with his special
Meranti Hydra.
Two years later I designed a new Hydra I guitar that was built in a limited edition of only 106 guitars. Meanwhile we have launched the Morpheus II guitar with solid Korina body and various selected veneers and a fix bridge on top. Actually we offer some Morpheus II guitars in auctions on e-bay. (if you like fixed bridges and more classy forms they realy are worth a look) In November 2007 Zerberus-Guitars introduced the new Hydra II guitar in Germany. I decided to keep the very characteristic and elegant shape of the Hydra I but I found a lot of things to improve over the Hydra I. Well....I would say: "The Hydra has grown up now." The body still is made of solid Korina wood, but now the Hydra II has a solid 18mm thick maple top and an incredible bookmateched quilted maple veneer on top.. Why did we decide in favor of Korina although there are a lot of more low priced tonewoods on the market ? Not for nothing Korina often is reffered as the holy grail of tonewoods. In our opinion Korina is the absolutely best tonewood to build an electric guitar from, and a lot of guitarist as well as luthiers agree. Right from building the Morpheus I and II and the Hydra I we have experienced the great advantages of Korina wood. Alone the little weight of Korina is astounding. The tonal characteristic is amazing. Weighing in at just 3,6 kilograms, the Hydra II is very comfortable to hold. This guitar fascinates with phantastic sustain and rapid attack. But the one-of-a-kind character of the Hydra II arises from the composition of its components, the exceptional design and most of all the concept that stands behind that guitar. The neck, that is properly glued and set into the body is made of best hard Maple. Thanks to the deep double cutaways and the very ergonomic set neck joint construction, its players need not be contortionists to gain access to the higher frets. The comfortable neck has a 25,5"
scale and 24 medium jumbo frets that are rounded, dressed and polished
accurately.
Even though a lot of guitarists will not spot it right away, they will feel it anyway: The fretboard is surrounded with a black binding. Thanks to the selected tonewood and the masterly workmanship, the Hydra II surprises with remarkable volume and a very differentiated sound even when it is played unplugged. With the aim to transform the very hamonic character and the unplugged sound potential perfectly into electrical oscillations we have developed the Kammerstein Quadrail humbucker as the perfect pickup for the Hydra II. Developing and designing the circuit and controls, like with
the Morpheus II I have attached great importance on versatility and
practicality. No matter if in a studio, on stage, in a rehearsal room or even at home in the living room, the Hydra II will provide the perfect sound, and thanks to the Kammerstein Quadrails she will do that without any hum or noise. The
Coil-Spectro-Shift-Circuit allows a very accurate and versatile access to the
tonal posibilities of the Hydra II.
Of
course the electronic compartment is sealed with high quality graphite lacquer
to shield the electronics against electromagnetic interference.
Designing the electronic compartment we have taken care to avoid a needless loss of tonewood. As you can see: At Zerberus-Guitars quality does not end where the light ends. ![]() Why do I attach so much importance to quality, workmanship and details ? Maybee it´s because I am German ;) Maybee it´s because I am a guitarplayer who loves everything about guitars. Using the Coil-Spectro-Shift-Circuit the player
has the possibility to blend each Kammerstein pickup from a humbucker to a
singlecoilhumbucker very sensitive
and gradually change the sound from a warm and
fat humbucker to a more percussive and bright singlecoil sound.
The tonal possibilities are nearly boundless and so the possible field of applications reaches from Jazz, Rock, Blues, Funk, Pop to Heavy Metal and many more. In fact you will meet the Hydra Mark II like the Morpheus II in all kind of bands where she asserts herself because of her great sound and impressing versatility. A special highlight of the Hydra II is the well-engineered concept that stands behind the tremolo system. Even the best guitar becomes unusable if the tremolo system does not work properly. Again Zerberus-Guitars relys on the best hardware that was perfectly matched to the Hydra II. The tremolo is a Wilkinson VS100 made by the well known high quality manufacturer Gotoh. To quarantee smooth flow of the strings over the
nut we have aseembled the Hydra II with a roller nut.
![]() To avoid frictional loss, the headstock
especially was redesigned to assure that the strings run parallel straight from
the nut to the tuning machines. If we would use standard tuning machines the guitar could become out of tune as soon as you work with the tremolo bar. To quarantee the guitar to stay in tune we have used self-locking machines made by Grover. ![]() Even by the choice of
the strings we attached great importance to provide best tuning perfomance and
stability.
The Hydra II is equipped with strings made by the US manufacturer SIT (Stay In Tune) -strings from Ohio. The result of all that endeavors is a well designed and composed tremolo system that works very precise, smooth and stays in tune no matter how hard you attack the whammy bar. Of course such a rare and valuable instrument has to be protected against damage by droping it. Therefore we have equipped the Hydra II like the Morpheus II before with a great working Marvel straplock system. ![]() From the
first contact you can see, hear and feel that the Hydra II is no ordinary
guitar. This guitar inspires and motivates its user to boost his skills and playing style. We take personal responsibility for the quality of all Zerberus Guitar products. Our motto is: "Quality starts with the design process and includes the incorporation of the highest quality, cured tone woods and the best hardware and best componentry available on the market. Whilst quality inspection can be useful in some situations, it is our aim to circumvent, as much as possible, its need by ensuring that we build our products 'right first time'. This is assisted by the fact that our guitars are hand built and finished by highly-trained skilled craftsmen, many of whom are also keen guitarists. When you purchase a Zerberus guitar, you will own a unique, organic product that has been loved and cared for from its inception and which is designed to last a lifetime." All Zerberus guitars are individually set up and tested prior to shipment, a process which we take great pride in overseeing. We give 2 years warranty but of course we care for our customers even after the 2 years warranty time :) Of course
the Hydra will be shipped including a Zerberus hardcase that perfectly fits the
Hydra guitar and an individual certificate.
![]() If you take this guitar onto the stage you might
upstage the whole band end even the singer :) No wonder - the audience will keep theyr eyes on you and looking at that increddible guitar they will have great expectations. If you take any Zerberus guitar onto the stage (a Hydra II or a Morpheus II), the audience will be impressed about that guitar. You won´t see a Zerberus on virtually every street corner since they come from Germany and are made in limited editions of only 100 pcs. (Morpheus II) or 120 pcs. (Hydra II). So all the guitarplayers in the audience will ask them selve where you got that guitar from and some of them may ask you after the show. But with that guitar - everybody will see that it is a really exceptional instrument, and they will expect you to do great things with such a rare guitar :) That can be a heavy burden. ;) You want it even
more rare and extreme ??
I am building very
fine guitars and basses using best
tonewood and hardware in handycraft here on my own in Germany (quality made in
Rhineland-Palatinate).
My aim is to
fullfill customers dreams and often I can exceed all theyr wildest
expectations.
Three samples to show you what I am talking
about.
If you allways have
dreamed of your own personal guitar that is a unique specimen worldwide, just
talk to me :)
For me "handcrafted" means:
No CNC
mill that spits out guitarbodys.
No guitar
exactly will be the same than the next because all the shapings
are done by
hand.

Here are some nice samples of one of our friends named Sebastien Wittmann playing his Hydra II:
Regarding the
shippment:
There are two very favourable ways
to ship a guitar.
1:
DHL
DHL is very priceworthy with only
45.00 Euro = 62.74 USD But DHL does not ship insured parcels to the USA anymore.
I have phoned with DHL asking ift they are making bad jokes with me. DHL allways have been very reliable (they never lost any parcel and I take big importance in stable and safe packing) and priceworthy but on
the other hand DHL allways was PRETTY SLOW.
And if I say "pretty slow" I realy mean that :) Some guitars shipping took more than 4 weeks. That was pretty nerve-wracking for me and most of all for the customers. If you are willing to take the risk: DHL costs only 62.74 USD. But please be aware that the shippment with DHL has no insurance at all. 2: Midway
Express
Midway Express really is pretty
speedy and safe.
The parcel can be isured on the
complete value and more.
Midway shipps with UPS and parcels
usually have a delivery time of only 3 days and less.
I often have shipped to the USA
via Midway and it was amazing how speedy they delivered the
guitars.
But Midway shippment costs 200.00
USD.
I will leave it to you to decide
for your favourite freight forwarder.
If you have a better idea, please
let me know.
Regarding
the payment:
People often ask me why the prices
in the US-Ebay auctions are much lower than those in the German
Ebay.
This is because ot the tax law.
(not my idea)
The price
shown in the auction is for bidders who live outside the European
Union.
Bidders
who live inside the European Union will have to add the German Value Added Tax
(VAT) that is 19%.
Of course we accept
Paypal.
If you want to send the money by
bank transfer (SWIFT banking) you are also very welcome.
We also have a Moneybookers
account and our bank can handle checks.
If you have a better idea, let me
know.
Am I
trustworthy?
Since 2006 zerberusguitars has 589 feedbacks and 100%
positive.
Since 1999 I had (and still have) another accound named
scheuchy that has 854 feedbacks (100% positive)
That´s in sum 1443 positive feedbacks. None of the is negative
and I am proud about that.
If I would screw any of my
customers, I´d have to close my shop immediately.
I never did and I never will and
for me it is very important to have 100% satisfied customers who are lucky with
theyr guitars.
That´s because I don´t spend
millions for advertisement or commercials.
It´s my customers who spread the
news by word-of-mouth recommendation.
Refund:
I am aware that it allways is a risky matter to buy a guitar
that you never had a chance to play before.
This is why I do my best to provide a lot of informations regarding sound, handling and quality. In Germany I can offer free shippment towards and back from my customers, but I can´t do that outside of Germany. I am really proud and persuaded about the sound, quality and handling of my Zerberus-Guitars and so I take great importance on a fair and customer-friendly return policy. So here is my offer: If you don´t like the guitar for any reason - you can ship the guitar back to my adress. Of course I will refund the buying price and moreover I will pay for the shippment to Germany. Of course there is also a two year guarantee on all Zerberus Guitars. If you have any questions - please feel free to mail me ! Before I ship a guitar, I allways make a very detailed setup. Adjusting the neck, string spacing, pickup height, adjusting the tremolo and so on. After the setup I seal the fretboard using some very good German plain hard wax oil with all natural ingrediences like linseed oil, colophony and other herbal resins. After that procedure I play some notes over the amplifier to make sure that the guitar sounds and plays as I expect it to. Then I hand polish the guitar to high gloss and put it into the Zerberus hardcase, add some soft cleaning and polishing cloth and pack the case into a stable cardboard box. And this all to make sure that you will not give the guitar out of your hands anymore :) If you have any questions, please
feel free to mail us. Good
luck with the auction !!
