Route 66: A road trip down memory lane
Known as the Mother Road, Route 66 connected Chicago, Illinois, to Santa Monica, California, via the states of Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. Serving as a major route for migrating communities, the popular road brought prosperity to its surrounding areas as businesses sprang up to cater to the travelers passing through. Although it was officially decommissioned in 1985, sections of Route 66 remain. They are classified as National Scenic Byways and are renamed Historic Route 66.
