History of WrestlingTaking it to the mat with take-downs, pins, and reversals
Wrestling: The world's oldest sport
The sport of wrestling has been around since ancient times, however, the first matches are recorded as taking place in 776 B.C. at the Olympic Games. The sport was popular in ancient Greece, but today is a competitive game in many cultures. Freestyle and Greco-Roman are common styles of the sport, and can still be seen in the Olympic Games. High schools, colleges, and professionals also participate in the sport. Participants score points against their opponents by taking them down to the mat, escaping from an opponent's hold, reversing control in the match, and by pinning their opponent.
